Noel Gallagher predicts Steve Bruce will finish the season on a high
Noel Gallagher has been taking a look at Newcastle’s visit to Craven Cottage on Sunday.
The former Oasis maestro declaring: ‘I don’t think I could raise my spirits to start to care about this one.’
A lot of Newcastle United fans know that feeling this season…
Whilst for Noel Gallagher, when your team has just won the Premier League and has a Champions League final approaching, why would you care about two clubs with nothing to play for, who have spent their season in a relegation fight.
Noel Gallagher is making predictions this weekend for BBC Sport on all ten Premier League matches and when pushed, goes with Newcastle United for a 2-1 win over Fulham.
Gallagher’s reasoning on choosing Newcastle United for the victory: ‘Once the leash is off them, they seem to do all right.’
Certainly there is a feeling that Steve Bruce has kept his players on the ‘leash’ far too often, this squad of players capable of showing far more than the Head Coach has allowed them the freedom to do so. Indeed the visits to the other two relegated clubs perfectly sum up the point, ultra negative approaches to the games, seeing a 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United and in an almost equally depressing game, only a goalless draw at West Brom.
For Mark Lawrenson, he sees the most likely result set to be a (1-1) draw.
Hopefully Lawrenson will be proved right about one thing for a change: the BBC Sport pundit declaring: ‘This might just be an open game, and a case of ‘let’s just go and play boys’.’
Well the last visit was certainly ‘open’, or at least the Fulham defence was, Rafa Benitez in what turned out to be his very final NUFC match, orchestrating a dominant 4-0 win at Craven Cottage in May 2019, ending the season with the fifth best points total and fifth best goals total in the Premier League, over the course of the final 16 games of the season (eight best form in the Premier League across Rafa’s final 28 PL matches).
Mark Lawrenson talking to BBC Sport:
“Fulham got a decent draw at Old Trafford in midweek, and Newcastle saw off Sheffield United.
“This might just be an open game, and a case of ‘let’s just go and play boys’.
“Especially from Fulham who will be in front of their fans for the first time in a while.
“Prediction is Fulham 1 Newcastle 1.”
Noel Gallagher prediction:
“I don’t think I could raise my spirits to start to care about this one.
“But I’ll say Newcastle.
“Once the leash is off them, they seem to do all right.
“Prediction is Fulham 1 Newcastle 2.”
