Newcastle United stars impress in Premier League ‘They shall not pass’ 2020/21 stats
Three Newcastle United stars has been named in new analysis of the 2020/21 Premier League season.
The study looked for the players who were dribbled past the least over the course of this season just ended.
The report analysed how many times players have been dribbled past as well as giving an average of how many times it happens per 90 minutes on the pitch.
In over 5,600 minutes they played this season in the Premier League, only fourteen times has anybody got past the NUFC defensive trio of Jamaal Lascelles, Federico Fernandez and Ciaran Clark.
The table has been published by ‘The Other 14’ (who specialise on stats/tables etc on the 14 clubs who aren’t the ‘Big Six’) which shows the most successful Premier League players when it comes to success against players taking them on.
Interesting statistics and obviously you do have to acknowledge the impact of the ultra negative tactics used by Steve Bruce for most of the season, meaning Newcastle have defended so deep, which then gives the opposition only limited opportunity and space to take players on, especially central defenders.
However, at the same time, even with that nod to Bruce negativity it is impressive to have three Newcastle United stars so high in this list, especially Fernandez and Lascelles in the top three.
This table complementing the review of a range of Premier League stats that we featured earlier this week (see HERE), those stats showing just overworked and under pressure the NUFC backline was throughout the campaign, as Steve Bruce gifted domination to the opposition week after week, meaning that most times United managed to get any points it was against the odds / stats.
