Newcastle United considering summer move for Tyler Roberts – Report

Newcastle United could make a move for Tyler Roberts in the upcoming transfer window.

Signed as a 19 year old for £2.5m from West Brom in 2018, the versatile player made 51 Championship appearances for Leeds across the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons.

Tyler Roberts can play as a winger, attacking midfielder or out and out striker, and he scored seven Championship goals in those two seasons.

However, Tyler Roberts has found both goals and starts in the Premier League difficult to come by, starting only 14 (plus 11 sub appearances) of Leeds’ 36 PL matches this season and scoring no goals.

Despite this, The Mail say that Newcastle United have been scouting the 22 year old and Steve Bruce is interested in signing him.

Tyler Roberts has only one year left on his contract and is said to have been frustrated at how little Premier League action he has seen and as yet hasn’t signed the new long-term deal Leeds have offered him.

It looks like a big decision lies ahead for the attacking player, with surely Leeds set to sell if Roberts decides not to sign the new extended deal.

Despite the lack of goals this season and the fact he has only one year left on his contract, The Mail say that Leeds still rate Tyler Roberts at over £10m.

A Welsh international with already 13 senior caps, though no goals yet, Tyler Roberts is a player who Steve Bruce is said to believe can get better with regular football and his versatility also a big asset.

The Mail add that Steve Bruce is working to a very limited budget and that could mean even a £10m+ bid for Tyler Roberts is out of the question.

Newcastle United fans who want to see a determined effort made to try and buy Joe Willock this summer, won’t be heartened by these claims of such a limited budget potentially set by Mike Ashley and that cheaper alternatives could be targeted instead of Willock – who has been superb and scored six Premier League goals already despite Steve Bruce limiting him to only nine starts, plus three sub appearances.
