Newcastle United confirm ‘lucky’ ballot winners as fans return for Sheffield United
Newcastle United have announced that they have completed the ballot for Sheffield United tickets.
In their official announcement (see below), the club also say that they have now sent a confirmation email to all successful applicants, with instructions on how they can get their ticket.
The 29 February 2020 was the last time when Newcastle United fans were allowed into St James Park, a ‘lucky’ 52,219 in attendance to watch a goalless draw against Burnley.
Hopefully this Sheffield United will be even more exciting…
That last St James Park match with supporters in attendance 15 months ago, included of course 10,000 who had been given free season tickets. The combined talents of Mike Ashley and Steve Bruce pushing ten thousand regulars to find something better to do with their time and to populate the seats around his tat empire adverts, Ashley forced to give the 10k tickets away.
This time the attendance is limited to 10,000.
Our survey of Newcastle fans (see HERE) showed that only 29% of them would have gone to the Sheffield United match if able to buy a ticket.
An even more worrying stat for the NUFC owner is that only 18% of fans indicated they would definitely go next season if Mike Ashley and Steve Bruce are still at the club.
Next Wednesday is a real novelty for the 10,000 Newcastle fans who will be inside St James Park, watching live football once again.
The bigger picture though is what will be the case in three months time, with the Premier League having confirmed that the plan they are working to is for full capacity to be in operation, including away fans allowed in, when the 2021/22 kicks off on the first weekend of the season – the weekend of Saturday 14 August.
Having new Newcastle United owners and a quality manager would make it an exhilarating return to a full St James Park in August.
I dread to think how St James Park will look though if Mike Ashley and Steve Bruce are still here and just how many free season tickets would need to be dished out to avoid total embarrassment for the owner and his patsy…
