Ahead of Friday night’s match, Brendan Rodgers has given a fitness update on some of his key players.

The Leicester boss giving details on the state of play of four players.

The good news for Leicester fans and Brendan Rodgers, not so good news for Newcastle, is that three of them are set to start on Friday night.

The Foxes welcome Newcastle United to King Power Stadium in the Premier League on Friday evening (8pm kick-off) looking to stretch their unbeaten run in all competitions to five matches.

Brendan Rodgers updates on…:

James Maddison:

“It is a catch-22 with James because he needs the games to get up to full speed (after a hip injury), but at the same time they’re important games for us.

“He’s a really important player for us.

“He’s gradually working his way towards that.

“The 90 minutes was important for him (in the 1-1 draw at Southampton), he’s had a good week’s training this week and then he will look to take that into the next game.

“He’s an outstanding player.

“He’s not at his full level of fitness yet but the only way you get that is in games, so it’s another week for him.

“Hopefully he can perform at his highest level against Newcastle.”

An excellent player, Maddison scored in both Premier League victories at St James Park last season and this one.

Jonny Evans:

“Jonny will be fine for the weekend.

“It’s just something which was provoked towards the end of the (Southampton) game, a little bit of soreness afterwards, but he should be fine for Friday.”

Possibly not a favourite for Newcastle fans but he has been a superb signing for Leicester.

Ricardo Pereira:

“Ricky played in the West Ham game (but then hasn’t started the next three) and he’s continued to work in training and I’m pretty sure he will play a part on Friday.

“We changed the balance of the team for those games, but each game is different and Ricky’s had a few weeks of training and he’s looked really good.”

A classy right-back, Pereira scored in the 5-0 hammering against Newcastle last season.

Wes Morgan:

“Wes is not available for Friday.

“He’s still working with the rehab team and getting back to some sort of level of fitness.”

The 37 year old is now a squad player anyway for Leicester and wouldn’t have started even if fully fit. With no Premier League starts this season, Morgan has been named on the bench 11 times and made three substitute appearances so far.
