First Newcastle player in 8 years to win Premier League player of the month – Joe Willock!
The Premier League player of the month for May 2021 has been announced.
Step forward, Joe Willock!
A suitable reward for a player who rounded off the season and his loan spell at Newcastle United, by scoring in seven NUFC matches in a row.
A record he now shares with Alan Shearer for Newcastle in the Premier League era.
Whether Joe Willock gets the opportunity to make it eight scoring Newcastle United Premier League games in a row remains to be seen…
The last four of those Willock goals / games fell in May, the loan signing scoring in the wins over Leicester, Sheffield United and Fulham, plus the 4-3 defeat to Man City.

It is a massive eight years since a Newcastle United player was previously awarded Premier League player of the month.
Back in November 2013 Tim Krul got the award, having helped Newcastle to beat Chelsea, West Brom and Norwich at home, plus an outstanding display at Spurs, as United won 1-0 with a Loic Remy goal.
Official PL Announcement of May 2021 Premier League player of the month:
‘Joe Willock’s fantastic end to the season for Newcastle United has been recognised with May’s EA SPORTS Player of the Month award.
Willock, who arrived on loan from Arsenal in the winter transfer window, scored in each of Newcastle’s final four matches in May.
Having also been prolific in April, he became only the second Newcastle player after Alan Shearer to score in seven successive Premier League appearances.
Willock is the first Newcastle player to claim the monthly prize since goalkeeper Tim Krul in November 2013.
The 21-year-old began May with a goal in the impressive 4-2 victory at Leicester City before finding the net again as Newcastle ran champions Manchester City close, narrowing losing 4-3.
In the final week of the season he scored the decisive goal in the 1-0 win over Sheffield United before matching Shearer’s record with a strike in the 2-0 success at Fulham.
Willock topped an eight-man shortlist that also included Gareth Bale, Alisson Becker, Christian Benteke, Sadio Mane, Nicolas Pepe, Aaron Ramsdale and Rodrigo.
