Callum Wilson posts personal message to Newcastle United fans after season ends prematurely
A Newcastle United Official Announcement on Tuesday morning revealed a Callum Wilson injury blow.
The club stating that the striker had been ruled out of the rest of the season.
Callum Wilson ‘tweaking his hamstring’ on Friday night during the 4-2 win over Leicester.
With only now 11 days until the end of the season and three games remaining, Newcastle United only able to finish between 11th and 17th, it isn’t the biggest disaster for the club.
However, after scoring twice in only his second start back after three months out following injury against Southampton in early February, Newcastle fans and no doubt Callum Wilson himself, had wondered whether a late call could be possible for England’s Euro 2020 campaign this summer (11 June to 11 July the tournament dates.
This injury though looks to have ended whatever hopes did still exist.
Despite that, Wednesday afternoon has seen Callum Wilson post a personal message to Newcastle fans, saying he is particularly disappointed because next Wednesday (19 May 2021) would have been his first chance to play in front of NUFC supporters, when Sheffield United visit St James Park.
The striker having been at Newcastle United eight months now and played out his entire first season, without a single Newcastle fan paying to watch him play. A bizarre scenario that none of us could ever have foreseen in the past.
Of the 40 Premier League goals Newcastle United have scored this season, Callum Wilson directly involved in 17 of them – scoring 12 with five assists.
Callum Wilson posts message to Newcastle fans via his Twitter account:
“Frustrating way to end my first season at Newcastle United having to miss the last 2 weeks through injury, especially with our first home game this season with fans coming up.
“I’ll be back stronger and hungrier with hopefully a full St James Park.
“I’m looking forward to meeting you all.”
