Arsenal fans comments before and after beating Newcastle United – ‘Slight’ change of tune…

Interesting to look back at what Arsenal fans were saying ahead of Sunday’s match against Newcastle United.

Even more interesting when you compare those comments to what Arsenal fans had to say after the 2-0 away victory.

Many of those pre-match comments (see below) way over the top, only nine months since their last trophy and four days before the second leg of their Europa League semi-final, some Arsenal fans claiming they were becoming the new Newcastle United.

Safe to say that NUFC fans would actually be over the moon to be that Newcastle United, if it involved winning the FA Cup, a European semi-final to look forward to and nine place in the Premier League.

Many Arsenal fans were predicting their team had little chance of winning at St James Park and yet after the match, many of those same Arsenal fans complaining how boringly easy it was to beat Newcastle United.

Whilst the media continue to talk of what a brilliant job Steve Bruce is doing at 17th placed Newcastle United, with now only four wins in the last twenty five games, Arsenal fans are seeing the reality of just how shocking NUFC are under Bruce.

The odd voice of reason but some way over the top comments on the Fabian Schar red card, on how he supposed tried to ‘kill’ Martinelli…

Arsenal fans commenting via their Arsenal Mania message board:

PRE-MATCH

‘Newcastle…the club Arsenal are in danger of becoming.’

‘Willock not playing is big blow for them, they still have the Gucci guy, he’ll tear apart if any space giving to him.’

Willock has been saving Fathead’s bacon all season. Of course he’d like to keep him.’

‘Can see us snatch a vital draw.’

‘It could end up the most boring game ever. both teams are sh.t.’

Newcastle haven’t beaten us in 15 of the last 16 games. Good thing this shadow of Arsenal and the record breaker Arteta is in town on Sunday with a gift.’

‘I’m certain Newcastle will beat us.’

‘Newcastle are sh.te, unfortunately so are we…’

‘Newcastle’s attack could be…

Wilson, ASM. Fraser, Almiron…you feel they should been well clear of a relegation fight with that.’

‘Respect to anyone who finds the enthusiasm to watch this.’

‘It is easy to make fun of Steve Bruce, but I was struck by the fondness Nicklas Bendtner mentions him in his book.’

‘Steve Bruce on social media boycott: “I was talking with my son about abuse a referee was getting & he said ‘Dad, it’s nothing compared to what you get.’ I looked & was like ‘wow’. But on the flip side social media got me my dog back after it ran away from a Firework display.”

‘That’s 100% David Brent from Bruce there, amazing quote.’

POST-MATCH

‘An easy win with some good one touch football at times. The match itself just felt boring and like a nothing game.’

‘That lack of interest from Newcastle during the game, lmao.

‘We actually have a good squad, it’s the manager that’s sh.t.’

‘The game was extremely easy due to how bad Newcastle were and we didnt even have to play particularly well.’

‘Mikel…4 wins, 11 goals, 0 losses and 0 conceded v Steve’s Bruce Newcastle…Arteta-ball > Bruce-ball…Opta verified stat!’

‘Can I just say that Mike Dean actually had a good performance today? Not sure every prem referee would have shown a straight red even though it was totally deserved.’

‘It’s very rare that I hardly notice the ref on the pitch when we’re playing, which is how it should be.’

‘Nice martinelli assist for Auba’s goal and Schar got sent off trying to kill Martinelli.

Nothing else happened.’

‘Schar was just a late challenge, this is a contact sport.

Don’t think I would’ve been up in arms if it got a yellow instead.’

‘Can I just say that Mike Dean actually had a good performance today? Not sure every prem referee would have shown a straight red even though it was totally deserved.’

‘We may not be making Europe via the PL next year but I’ve just checked the table, at least I can say officially that we are out of the relegation risk mathematically now, may have been for a few weeks but it’s the 1st time I’ve checked the table for a bit.’

‘Bruce doesn’t think it was a red card, says “you can’t tackle anyone anymore”…’

‘If you look like Steve Bruce you will say stuff like that.’

‘Bruce said that you need to be allowed to rough up Arsenal. Couldn’t believe my ears when I heard him say something to that effect.’

‘Did what we had to do at the end of the day but won’t base today on the game this coming Thursday. After all a lot of people got carried away when we beat Sheff Utd the other week.’

‘Wasn’t Sean Longstaff being linked to Yanited for £50 million a year ago?

Honestly, being English is all you need sometimes to get touted for a huge fee…man just made Elneny-Ceballos look like Vieira-Petit ffs.’

‘It’s an emphatic win with our second string. The potential is definitely there.’

‘Newcastle are 17th mate.’

‘We won, I see. Good for us. How did the 2nd half go? I had to leave.’

‘Average performance against a much weaker team. Was feeling bored at certain part of the games. We need to be better against Villarreal on the return leg.’

‘Willock out, we win, simple. Martinelli our best player today. Gabriel, Bellerin and Elneny had decent games as well I thought. Happy for Ryan to get a clean sheet as well.’

‘Good stuff. Wished we would do more of this whole “winning against teams that are dreadful” more often.’

‘Decent performance by the players on the pitch despite a no-win scenario of it always going to be pointed out the level of the opposition.’

‘That Jacob Murphy is garbage.’

‘Xhaka patting Schar on the head after he’s almost killed Martinelli. F.ck him and f.ck you if you support him. Despicable.’
