These are some pretty special Chelsea v Newcastle statistics and form lines pre-Monday night
It is Chelsea v Newcastle tonight.
Steve Bruce’s team kicking off at 8pm, facing Thomas Tuchel’s team at Stamford Bridge.
So what are the form lines and statistics relevant to this Chelsea v Newcastle clash?
Are you sitting comfortably?
Well you might not be after you have read the following…
Newcastle have won one of their last 26 away league games against Chelsea (seven draws, eighteen defeats), the exception when Papiss Cisse working that magic in May 2012 the only exception.
Against no other side have Chelsea won more Premier League matches at home than they have against Newcastle, at the moment 18 wins against both NUFC and Spurs.
Newcastle United have lost six Premier League matches in 2021, more than any other side.
Joe Willock became the third Newcastle United player to score on his Premier League debut this season, after Jeff Hendrick and Callum Wilson did it on the opening day of the season at West Ham (how long ago does that feel now?!!).
In the 3-2 win over Southampton last weekend, Newcastle scored three goals in the first half of a Premier League game for the first time since October 2015.
Before last Saturday, had scored only five first half goals in their opening 22 Premier League games this season, that is five goals in over sixteen and a half hours of first half action (plus injury time) this season, until that goal frenzy v Southampton.
The last time Newcastle United won three PL matches in a season in the capital was in 2013/14, after victories over West Ham and Palace, a win over Chelsea would match that.
Newcastle United have lost 14 of their last 18 Premier League matches played on a Monday, failing to score in 13 of them, including the last four.
Before this weekend’s Premier League round of fixtures, only West Brom (373) had faced more shots in the Premier League this term than Newcastle United (331).
Steve Bruce’s managerial record (home and away) v Chelsea – Played 28 Won 3 Drawn 5 Lost 20
How about Chelsea v Newcastle as a Premier League fixture compared to NUFC travelling to the rest of the ‘big six’ in the Premier League era:
Arsenal v Newcastle – 4 wins, 2 draws, 14 points
Chelsea v Newcastle – 1 win, 6 draws, 9 points
Liverpool v Newcastle – 1 win, 4 draws, 7 points
Man City v Newcastle – 1 win, 4 draws, 7 points
Man Utd v Newcastle – 1 win, 8 draws, 11 points
Tottenham v Newcastle – 11 wins, 2 draws, 35 points
Interesting to see that Newcastle have picked up more points at Tottenham from 1993/94 onwards, than Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd and Man City put together!
The record at Liverpool is the very worst, as Newcastle haven’t played at Man City as many times in the PL era, Man City missing a number of PL seasons and indeed at one point were in the third tier.
Statistics / records are there to be broken, the stage is set for Steve Bruce and his players tonight…
