The fans choice of Newcastle team v Chelsea on Monday night – Very tight
We asked fans the question, which 11 players would you pick in your Newcastle team v Chelsea?
We put together a list of the 24 players who looked as though they could potentially be selected for this game.
Newcastle looking to make it three wins from four games, although the longer formline still shows only two NUFC victories from the last fourteen matches.
Ahead of Monday’s match, Steve Bruce confirmed that Jamaal Lascelles and Federico Fernandez were ‘touch and go; in terms of availability for this match, with both players now back in training.
On the injured list, the NUFC Head Coach stated that Javier Manquillo, Callum Wilson and Fabian Schar were all ruled out. The trio looking at a minimum of a couple of months out each, with their respective injuries.
Jeff Hendrick is suspended after his two yellow cards against Southampton.
So this means we had listed 24 Newcastle United players for you to choose from.
An interesting choice by the Newcastle fans, with some big calls.
There are five very confident and well supported selections, with ASM 98%, Almiron 96%, Hayden 92%, Clark 92% and Willock 91% all getting overwhelming backing.
You then have the other half dozen who make up the team, with 71% Lewis, 69% Gayle and 65% Dubravka, all getting two thirds of the fans selecting them.
The final three choices not exactly overwhelming, as 54% Dummett and 54% Krafth make the fans Newcastle team v Chelsea.
The very final selection sees it so close, 50% Lascelles edging out 49% Fernandez, with 48% Fraser and 48% Shelvey also very tightly grouped.
On the goalkeeping front, a very definite two to one support in favour of Dubravka coming back in for Darlow.
When it comes to filling in for Callum Wilson, overwhelming 69% support for Gayle compared to 14% Carroll and 7% Joelinton.
This is how the fans’ Newcastle team v Chelsea looks with the percentage votes rounded up/down to nearest whole number for each of the 24 players, with this first eleven.
Based on those selections, this is my suggestion of how those eleven players could / would line up:
The rest below:
19% Matty Longstaff
11% Elliot Anderson
7% Sean Longstaff
