Chelsea fans comments before Newcastle – Only a case of how many winning by but one strange theme

Chelsea fans have been talking ahead of the match at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.

Thomas Tuchel and his players taking on Newcastle United at 8pm.

The new Chelsea boss with four wins and a draw in his opening five games, though only six goals scored in those five matches, with one conceded. If Chelsea fans see their team win against Newcastle, they go top four.

Chelsea fans though pretty universal in the comments below, thinking this is a case of how many their team will beat Newcastle United by, not whether they will.

One odd theme running through the comments from Chelsea fans and is often the case when fans of other clubs talk ahead of playing Newcastle, is a belief that Andy Carroll will no doubt score against them.

This is Andy Carroll who in the past thirty four and a half months, has scored exactly one Premier League goal…

Chelsea fans commenting via their Shed End message board:

‘I got a feeling tonight we announce ourselves back in the title hunt (if city don’t hold their form) with a big bang 0-6 win….stand back!’

‘It would be nice to see us get a comfortable win. We haven’t managed that in some time. Even our current good run of results has been full of narrow wins. I’m hoping for a strong performance with us winning by a few goals. While a win will boost our top 4 hopes it will also help Fulham’s fight for survival and I would be happy with that too.’

‘I’m feeling strangely confident. Not sure why but I feel we’re due some goals. Timo’s good form in his last game gives me reason for optimism so I’m predicting a 3-0 win!’

‘Really hope the extra days of training and rest pays some dividends, and we have a fast start to blow them away by half time. Newcastle without their key striker, will have no choice but to park the bus and make it as difficult as could for us. This will be a real test, no excuse but to win this game, anything other than that will cast doubts about Tuchel and the team’s credentials to the top 4. I think we will do it, but won’t be easy if we don’t get an early goal to set the tone.’

‘Imagine if someone told you, about a month ago, that a win here would get us into top four. Crazy season.

Anyway, no room for mistakes tonight. Hopefully we can score at least two before the inevitable goal from Andy Carroll.’

‘That guy bullied JT at his peak. Here’s hoping he’s had about 10 pints last night or did something else stupid to blunt him a bit.’

‘How long ago was that? Carroll must have played only about 3 matches since.’

‘This is the classic “can we do it on a cold rainy night in Newcastle” scenario. Excpect a hard scrappy game but the pitch will surely be better than that heap of mud at Barnsley. If I were them I’d go for the high block, high risk but high reward. If they sit back there’s only one outcome.’

‘Yes except it’ll be in West London…’

‘I know we’re at home but Newcastle really is a fantastic place to go to for drinking. Probably my favourite town for an all dayer!’

‘A win is a must but depending how West Ham’s game goes a draw may be enough to see us go into the top 4 on goal difference.

With that in mind I expect we keep the 3 at the back even if Newcastle play negative football with 5 at the back themselves. The Fa cup game allowed us to see a back 4 under Tuchel for the first time after he was forced to switch and I hope we see it more often.’

Calum Wilson has a torn hamstring so one less striker to be concerned about.

We have been rather fortunate recently, no Kane, no Antonio and now no Wilson, let’s hope we make the most of it.’

‘We win here and we are back in Top 4. Hope the players don’t underestimate Newcastle.’

‘What a set of results everyone dropped points we are in a totally different position in just a few games. Top 4 looking doable and somewhat maintainable.

Need to get the job done today bottling inexcusable.’

‘I just hope that we give Newcastle a real hiding. It seems ages since we really anihalated the oppo.

Lets be honest, they are absolute sh.te.

We should be able to play the Ressies and beat this lot, although I expect Andy Carroll to get a couple.

We MUST set up to go after the Barcodes from the first whistle, we must not waste this opportunity that Spuds, Everton, Villa, United, Liverpool have given us. Nothing less than an emphatic win will do, and I hope Tommy realises this.’
