Southampton fans haven’t taken defeat too well – Savage comments on Newcastle United and…
Southampton fans couldn’t believe what they had just seen.
Their team dominate for over an hour at St James Park, fail to take a series of clear chances, as Newcastle showed zero ambition with Steve Bruce’s ultra-negative tactics.
Only for a very late Carroll-inspired rally to somehow produce a home win, Newcastle scoring with what were pretty much their only two chances.
Southampton fans unable to comprehend how their team managed to lose on the balance of the game and chances/pressure, plus losing to what the almost unanimously saw as a shocking Newcastle team playing terrible negative football.
This comment pretty much summing up the mood…’Newcastle are honestly sh..e and I’d rather go down than play like them.’
To be fair, the Southampton fans appear just as annoyed with their own team for throwing the game away.
Southampton fans comment via their Saints Web message board:
‘Newcastle are honestly sh..e and I’d rather go down than play like them.
Performance was good, all the last 4 performances have been good and that is the main positive.
Keep playing like that we will win games, our lack of taking chances and leaky defence will stop us winning more of course but we’ll win enough I reckon.’
‘Infuriating result. Thought Newcastle were sh…
‘How they are where they are in the table is beyond me.’
‘I fu..ing hate Newcastle away, terrible away end stuck up in the Gods.
Never seems to be on a Saturday 3pm, we always gift them goals, bloody Andy Carroll always does for us.
My honest opinion, still think this Saints side will go down.’
‘Played well, yet grabbed defeat from the jaws of victory.’
‘Terrible result, but I think theres a massive knee jerk reaction again on here.
Yes, we deserved to win that, but, that is a reason to be more optimistic for the season.
We are playing a lot better recently.’
‘Unlucky to lose, two cr.p teams, one got the breaks the other one didn’t.
Carroll’s speculative hoof cross could have gone anywhere, just happened to land on the onrushing Shelvys bonce, difficult to defend when the attacker has the momentum.’
‘Playing as we are we clearly aren’t one of the 3 worst sides in general play
We are definitely one of the 3 worst teams at game management though.’
‘Gobsmacked that Ings was taken off when we needed an equaliser. I’m starting to doubt Ralph’s ability tbh with these bizarre decisions.’
‘We may as well play every game to 85 minutes then stop and add one to the opposition score, it is so inevitable that we will concede at the death.
Every team we play knows Saints will capitulate in the last minutes. All they have to do is get the ball in the box.
Frankly it is becoming so boring seeing this in every game. This is three points thrown away YET AGAIN.’
‘To top it all my workmate’s a Toon fan, they barely did anything of note and we squander too many opertuntites……AGAIN.’
‘I take issue with Long, he spoilt another hard working game for me. He cleared the ball out to our left, chased it down then stood off Carrol and let him cross.’
‘Still FURIOUS we lost that.’
‘We were by far and away the better team.
Got to forget about it and move on to West Ham and Villa.’
‘We were the better team, Newcastle were very poor, but put away their two goals against the run of play.
The cart-horse Carroll made a difference for them with his height and bulk.’
‘There are certain players Saints just cannot play against, regardless of who’s in the team.
Andy Carroll is one of them. Lukaku is another.
Previously it was Dion Dublin and Tomas Radzinski.
I just don’t get it. It’s utterly predictable. Carroll changed the game when he came on and we all knew he would.’
‘Threw it away. Newcastle barely a threat.’
‘The better team for long periods and should have been 2 or 3 up before we bottle it, sit back and concede poor goals.
Geordies are a poor team and were there for the taking… another wasted opportunity.’
‘Fu..ing criminal to throw that one away. Newcastle were poor and created very little.
Comfortably the better team for 75 minutes and in the lead, and we still couldn’t grind it out.
I’d have taken a draw in those circumstances, but to give it away like that and lose it is gut-wrenching.’
‘The better team lost, plenty of winnable games left.’
