Sheffield United 0 Newcastle 2 – Match ratings and comments on all NUFC players

We asked Jack Lacey-Hatton to give us his match ratings after Sheffield United 0 Newcastle 2.

Allan Saint-Maximin popping up with a superb towering header on 15 minutes.

Then Jonjo Shelvey sealing it with the help of VAR!

Jack Lacey-Hatton gives us his NUFC player ratings and comments.

Dubravka – 9

Excellent saves throughout.

His brilliant reaction to the early deflected effort set a resilient tone.

Dealt with a nasty dead leg from Billy Sharp’s poor tackle. Excellent.

Manquillo – 9

For me the pick of the bunch in the backline.

His interceptions, tackles and blocks stopped the flow of Sheffield United’s attacks down the left.

Showed real energy and desire when getting forward on the counter. My man of the match.

Clark – 8

Another excellent outing from a man vastly becoming un-droppable.

Positioning was always on point throughout and he won a number of key headers when Sheffield went more direct.

Fernandez – 7

Made a crucial block when Sheffield Utd had men over in the box that could have turned the game.

Tracked the strikers’ movement expertly in the first half and as comfortable on the ball as ever.

Dummett – 7

A game that suited Paul right down to the ground but take nothing away from another excellent performance at the back from our local lad.

Offers a nice balance when the left side in front is Willems and ASM.

Willems – 8

He just doesn’t seem to give the ball away at the moment.

I can’t remember the last time we had a wide player who consistently always made the right decision but he does.

Defended brilliantly as well.

Shelvey – 8

The last two games few fans can have complaints over Jonjo.

Not just his goals which have been vital but his overall play has been disciplined and determined.

He covered a fair old amount of grass tonight and not just to score his goal.

Hayden – 8

Stopped all the Sheffield United play through the middle and forced them to go wide.

Even at the end of the game he was still scrapping for loose balls.

His superb tackle in the first ten minutes down the right-hand side was another moment that set the tone of our performance.

ASM – 8

I have seen him play better in previous games for us but he deserved that goal for his overall contribution since arriving.

Great leap for the header.

Offered us a real threat on the break when the game was stretched.

Almiron – 7

It wasn’t a night where Miggy could show his true ability going forward but he deserves real credit for putting in such a shift, particularly in the first half when we barely saw the ball.

Carroll – 8

He reminded everyone of his battling qualities tonight.

Helped us defend strongly on set-pieces with his aerial presence.

A bit of a shame he isn’t yet at the point he can play a full 90 as I am not sure Joelinton has offered anything in the last few games.

Turned into an 8 with that superb flick for the second goal.
