Reasons to be fearful – Part 1
Like most Newcastle fans, I have enjoyed the team’s recent upturn in fortune.
However, also like most Newcastle supporters, I know the next crisis might not be far away under Mike Ashley’s mismanagement.
These are some of the reasons why I think we need to be fearful…
1) We have been getting away with it.
Normally, when the opposition dominates possession and have more attempts on goal, they’re likely to come away with the points.
However, in our last three matches we have bucked that trend.
Thanks to some determined defending, good finishing and a large slice of luck.
However, if the opposition continues to have the majority of possession and attempts on goal, you’d expect the results to start going the other way.
2) Our biggest attacking threats in the last three games, Andy Carroll and Allan Saint Maximin, are both injury prone and may miss significant parts of the season.
3) There may not be any serious reinforcements arriving in January.
As the management seem to believe we’ve got enough in the squad to keep us up.
This would fit in with their strategy of maintaining their place in the premiership with the minimum of investment.
However, not all Premiership teams are run this way!
Many of the teams around us may well look to spend large amounts of money to try to keep themselves in the Premiership.
So like most of the seasons during Ashley’s ownership of our club, I’m hoping for the best but prepared for the worst.
