Premier League relegation odds – Major shift for Newcastle United after victory over Southampton

Interesting to see how the Premier League relegation odds are looking after this latest round of games, Newcastle coming back to win against Southampton at St James Park.

Before the season started, the bookies made Newcastle United a comfortable mid-table finisher.

However, after 16 games it is interesting to see how they view it now, as we are only three matches away from the halfway point..

This is how the Premier League table now looks on Monday after Newcastle’s win over Southampton and the conclusion of this round of PL fixtures:

As we enter this stage of the season, the concentrated number of matches means that things can change very quickly.

With these past three games in an eight day stretch, nowhere has it changed more than it has for Newcastle United.

After losing to Aston Villa, Newcastle were rated 9/4 for relegation, favourites to go down apart from those in the relegation spots (Norwich, Watford and Southampton).

With seven points from a possible nine, Newcastle are now way out to 7/1. Not seen as totally safe but now there are seven clubs in total that are rated more likely to be relegated.

The bookies odds don’t exactly match Newcastle’s tenth place in the Premier League table though, as Arsenal, Brighton and Everton are all rated less likely to go down, even though they have less points than Steve Bruce’s team.

The current Premier League relegation odds from BetVictor (odds in brackets were after NUFC lost to Aston Villa and before the St James Park game against Manchester City):

1/6 (4/11) Norwich

2/9 (8/13) Watford

9/4 (11/4) Aston Villa

11/4 (7/4) Southampton

3/1 (6/1) Bournemouth

4/1 (10/3) West Ham

5/1 (10/1) Burnley

7/1 (9/4) Newcastle United

9/1 (5/1) Brighton

14/1 (9/1) Everton

14/1 (8/1) Sheffield Utd

20/1 (6/1) Crystal Palace
