Premier League release official statement on announcement of next Newcastle United Live TV Matches
Ahead of the season, the Premier League released a schedule of when fans could expect to be informed of the schedule of Newcastle United Live TV Matches throughout the season, as well as for other clubs as well of course.
The details of February 2020 live NUFC matches were due to be made public by Friday 13 December.
However, the Premier League have released a new official statement on Tuesday morning saying this hs now changed.
They say that: ‘Due to Premier League teams progressing to the knockout stages of UEFA club competitions, fixture amendments for the month of February will now be released no later than Friday 20 December.’
It didn’t take a genius to work out that this was the case before the season kicked off, unless all English clubs were going to be knocked out of both Champions League and Europa League at the group stage.
The final games in the groups are played between Tuesday 10 December and Thursday 12 December, with the draws for the knockout stages not until Monday 16 December.
So in reality, they were never going to put out the Premier League February 2020 live TV games details before then.
These are the supposed TV live game release dates for the rest of the season and today’s official Premier League statement follows.
Friday 13 December 2019 (Now Friday 20 December 2020) – February 2020 TV games
Friday 24 January 2020 – March 2020 TV games
Friday 21 February 2020 – April 2020 TV games
Friday 3 April 2020 – May 2020 TV games
Monday 11 May 2020 – Final day fixtures on Sunday 17 May 2020
Things are further complicated with February 2020 the month when there is a mid-season break, which of course is in reality just for the benefit of the elite clubs playing in Europe.
So Newcastle fans face yet another two week gap without the team playing, as we don’t know whether the away match at Arsenal is on the weekend of Saturday 8 February 2020 of Saturday 15 February 2020, as half the club play one weekend and the other half on the next one.
The following month (March 2020) sees yet another international break, with no games between Saturday 21 March and Saturday 4 April (as the fixtures stand now before TV changes).
Official Premier League statement:
‘Statement on February 2020 broadcast selections
Due to Premier League teams progressing to the knockout stages of UEFA club competitions, fixture amendments for the month of February will now be released no later than Friday 20 December.
This will allow the League to take into account the outcome of UEFA’s knockout draws, before allocating Premier League fixtures accordingly within the mid-season player break.
The draws for the UEFA Champions League round of 16 and UEFA Europa League round of 32 will be conducted on Monday 16 December.
The mid-season player break will have the 10 fixtures of Matchweek 26, split across the two weekends of 7-10 February and 14-17 February, 2020.
The break was introduced in June 2018 after positive discussions with The FA and the EFL regarding the football calendar.’
