Independent ratings system shows Man City MOTM but 4 Newcastle United players in top 5 performers

A great effort by all 13 Newcastle United players involved on Saturday.

An excellent collective showing that earned a point.

So who were the best individuals on the day amongst the two teams?

I was interested to see this overview of the Newcastle 2 Manchester City 2 match.

The Whoscored rating system is the industry leader for an independent viewpoint in matches and is used by numerous sections of the football industry; including media, bookmakers and clubs themselves.

They cover every single match in every major European league, including the Premier League.

Over 200 raw statistics are used to calculate the player ratings and are weighted according to influence in the game – taking into account the area of the pitch and its outcome for each important event.

Interesting to see how they rated all the players involved on Saturday on both sides:

As you can see, Kevin de Bruyne is rightfully rated as the man of the match with a rating of 8.5.

However, the next four highest rated players on the pitch were all in black and white.

Jonjo Shelvey leading the way with 7.9, then Federico Fernanadez (7.5) and Allan Saint-Maximin (7.4) & Jetro Willems (7.4).
