This will be the true test for Newcastle United
After the magnificent and unexpected victory against West Ham at the London Stadium, we now find ourselves four points clear of the relegation zone.
An upturn in form that has seen us collect seven points from the last 12 available.
We now have three wins this season, secured in unlikely circumstances against Tottenham, Manchester United and now West Ham.
All fantastic results, securing nine incredibly precious in our battle against the drop.
What has then been so disappointing is the points we have dropped at home against teams around us at the bottom.
We can discount the two points dropped against Wolves last week. They are a quality side and won’t be in the bottom half of the table come the end of the season. Their impressive performance against Arsenal this weekend is evidence of their quality.
However, the draw against Watford and the dreadful performance against Brighton at home, were both huge opportunities missed and undoubtedly four points lost. Faced with teams who wanted us to come and break them down, we found ourselves wanting.
Which is why next weekend’s home game against Bournemouth will be the real test of whether a corner has truly been turned this season.
Eddie Howe’s men are once again impressing, the latest team to beat Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United but it is a game that we simply must be targeting for another much needed three points.
Over the last couple of seasons under the management of Benitez we were able to string together a number of victories in a row. These positive spells were crucial in securing our Premier League status.
Get another win next weekend and maybe everyone who cares about the football club can start looking up the table and towards the top ten, rather than over our shoulder.
Lose, or even draw that game, and it will feel like we are back to square one.
