The predicted Newcastle team v Aston Villa
All eyes are now on the Newcastle team v Aston Villa.
Steve Bruce heading back to Villa Park for the first time since his departure in October 2o18.
The Newcastle United Head Coach hoping to make it three wins in a row.
Steve Bruce had a bit of an unfortunate double last season.
Before he was sacked at Villa, they lost 2-1 at home to Sheffield Wednesday.
Then when Bruce joined Sheff Wed, they lost 3-1 at home to Aston Villa.
As well as the suspended Sean Longstaff, there are also two who will definitely miss out through injury/fitness issues.
Lascelles and Ritchie ruled out, whilst on Thursday morning Steve Bruce said that Ciaran Clark was also a doubt as he now had a hamstring injury.
In better news, he said that providing there were no setbacks. Schar and Lejeune are available for Monday night at Aston Villa.
The two big questions then will be, are we going to see a back four instead for this game, or will Steve Bruce stick with three centre-backs and have at least three of his six centre-backs fit enough to start?
My feeling is that if Clark has a hamstring issue then surely he won’t be considered, as those are the type of injuries that could get so much worse if they are risked and it goes wrong.
As for Lejeune, I can’t see him going straight back into the team after seven months out, with more likely a sub appearance or two first.
Fabian Schar has been missing only weeks and I think he is set to come back in and start, if fitness allows.
Paul Dummett replaced Jamaal Lascelles after the Bournemouth injury forced the captain off on 20 minutes, Dummett helping United win the game and not concede in those final 70 minutes. He will surely start with Fernandez in the middle of the three.
Providing no other injury/fitness issues, especially for those on international duty, I see the rest of the team staying the same.
One positive of Monday night football is that it gives the internationals a couple of more days recovery time.
The above gives me this predicted Steve Bruce Newcastle team v Aston Villa:
If of course Steve Bruce doesn’t have three ready to start centre-backs, it will be very interesting to see what he does then.
