Steve Bruce says both December and January look ‘difficult’ at West Ham press conference

Steve Bruce has taken his pre-West Ham press conference.

The NUFC head coach meeting journalists early Friday morning before training.

The eleventh Premier League game of the season and Newcastle needing the three points to ensure they stay out of the bottom three.

Steve Bruce obviously needing to find goals from somewhere, or at least create some chances.

In the last two away matches, Newcastle haven’t had a single corner or effort on goal…

Asked about the joint worst ever goals record in Newcastle’s history from the first 10 games and what he intends to do to change it, Steve Bruce declared: “Change the system or change players.”

Whether either thing will happen at West Ham remains to be seen.

Naturally, Steve Bruce didn’t mention the other option, changing the head coach.

For those who see Bruce as the king of excuses, there appeared to be a few more of them thrown in this morning.

The NUFC Head Coach talking already about December being ‘difficult’ because there are so many games and January difficult because it is difficult to sign new players mid-season.

Here’s hoping there is some positive change at West Ham because Steve Bruce appears to be already preparing future excuses…

Steve Bruce talking on Friday morning:

“I think we all feel as though we’re not far off.

“We’ve had a couple of magic moments by beating Spurs and Man United.

“The consistency looks to have arrived defensively.

“The players enjoy coming in – there’s a good spirit among the group and around the training ground.

“Man United are seventh and they’ve won three games.

“Two or three points separate a vast amount of teams; if you put back to back wins together, you shoot up the table.

“And that has to be our aim.

“We’re quietly confident we can go to West Ham and get a result.”

Scoring goals:

“It’s an issue.

“That is the conundrum which we face.

“There are two (possible) solutions.

“Change the system or change players.

“So we will see how we go tomorrow and that is obviously the conundrum which i face.

“It’s easy to do it in training but they’ve got to do it when the real ball comes out – that’s how you’re judged.

“The front three are still settling in.

“We have to improve but I think we’ll get there.”

December is difficult:

“It’s now coming to a critical part of the season in November and December in particular.

“December has six league games in it, which is ridiculous.

“The middle of winter is nearly upon us and it is all to play for.”

January is difficult:

“January is always, always difficult…

“So look, if there’s somebody out there who can improve us, then of course we will try and act.

“As for real big conversations…I really haven’t (had any on more signings – although Bruce admitted he spoke to Lee Charnley on Thursday).

“I’m still concentrating on the job ahead, which is to get the best out of the team now.”
