Steve Bruce is on verge of being named Premier League Manager of the Month if…
Is Steve Bruce going to pick up his first ever Premier League Manager of the Month award, after over 20 years as a manager?
Well, so far so good.
Newcastle are one of only four clubs to have won their opening two games this month.
NUFC beating West Ham and Bournemouth, Liverpool beating Villa and Man City, Leicester coming out on top against Palace and Arsenal, whilst for Chelsea it is wins over Palace and Watford.
With Liverpool, Chelsea and Leicester it is more expected, so if Newcastle can continue to match them for points (or maybe even a case if NUFC fall slightly below one of the others) in the remaining days of November, as the underdogs Steve Bruce would surely win the gong.
It would be lightning striking in November once again for NUFC, as Rafa Benitez was the November 2018 Premier League Manager of the Month.
It was the seventh time the Spaniard had picked up the award, five at Liverpool and once each at Chelsea and Newcastle.
A very tough start to the season, mostly to do with a summer where Mike Ashley had put as many obstacles in the way of the manager’s preparations (insisting on a £20m+ profit on transfer deals and only signing his top target Rondon very late etc etc).
Rafa bounced back with that November 2018 award, guiding his side to three wins from three in November 2018, with victories over Watford, AFC Bournemouth and Burnley lifting United up the table.
For Steve Bruce to repeat that award, a win at his old club Aston Villa looks essential.
Considering they have lost their last three games and Newcastle have suddenly found their way to scoring a few goals, five in the last two games, this match could go either way.
A win at Villa would put Steve Bruce in poll position for the award and I think regardless of what other clubs do in their remaining November games, a draw at home to Man City on Saturday 30 November would surely do it, whilst of course repeating January’s win over Man City would 100% guarantee it.
You can only imagine the reaction of pundits if Bruce did lift the award, the Newcastle fans absolutely crucified for how they failed to celebrate his arrival…
