Steve Bruce has now confirmed that Jamaal Lascelles suffered a fracture against Bournemouth.

The NUFC captain forced off early in the game with Newcastle a goal down.

However, the Head Coach says that it is though a big relief that ‘his knee ligaments are intact’ after picking up the injury.

Steve Bruce talks about being ‘without him for a few weeks’ but I think in this context he isn’t meaning two or three weeks, which ‘a few weeks’ would usually mean.

In the official club statement (see below) released last week, they stated that it would be 2020 before Jamaal Lascelles would be back in first team action and I’m sure that is still the case.

More bad news after it was revealed on Thursday morning that Ciaran Clark is a doubt for Monday after picking up a hamstring injury.

Though on the positive side, Bruce said both Schar and Lejeune are in line to be available for Aston Villa.

Steve Bruce talking to BBC Newcastle about Jamaal Lascelles:

“He has got a fracture.

“Thankfully, his knee ligaments are intact, which is always good.

“We are going to be without him for a few weeks.

“Look, it is a crying shame when somebody gets injured after playing so well.

“And certainly, since I have walked through the door, the captain has been terrific.

“Look, it is part and parcel of it.

“We have been dealt some cruel ones and managed to cope with it…and that has got to be the key.

“If we are strong in one department – thankfully we have got centre-backs.”

On 14 November the Newcastle United official statement:

‘Newcastle United can confirm that Magpies captain Jamaal Lascelles will be out until the New Year after suffering a knee injury during Saturday’s 2-1 victory over AFC Bournemouth.

The central defender sustained the injury during the first half of the match and had to be replaced by Paul Dummett.

Lascelles has started all 12 of the club’s Premier League fixtures so far this season, scoring once.’
