Steve Bruce confirms 2 Newcastle United players return for Aston Villa, 3 miss out and 1 doubtful
Matt Ritchie has now been out of action for close to 13 weeks.
After early hopes he would make a surprisingly swift comeback, reality has proved anything but.
Steve Bruce confirming that the winger is ‘still not right’ and won’t be considered for Aston Villa.
The NUFC Head Coach though says that Florian Lejeune will be available for Monday night.
Whilst Fabian Schar is expected to also be ok unless there is a setback in training.
On Wednesday, the club released a video (watch below) showing the squad training, including Schar and Lejeune.
As well as Ritchie missing, Sean Longstaff serves the last game of his suspension and Lascelles is out until after the new year.
Steve Bruce also revealing that Ciaran Clark has ‘nicked a hamstring, slightly’ whilst on international duty and is also a doubt.
Steve Bruce speaking to BBC Newcastle:
“With the momentum, you’re always looking for the next game.
It seems an even longer wait until Monday – it’s bad enough waiting until Saturday – but it lets all the players get back from internationals, like Almiron – who’s been half way round the world, again.
“Lejeune is close.
“He’s played in two (reserve) games, he’s trained – he will be in consideration.
“Schär will be in consideration, too – if he comes through the rest of the week.
“Ritchie is still not right.
“We have got a slight doubt about Ciaran Clark, who came on for the second half (on Monday, for Ireland), and played their first game.
“He’s nicked a hamstring, slightly.
“We think he’s going to be OK… but we’ll see how he is.”
The Mag – 20 November 2019:
Newcastle United take on Aston Villa this Monday coming.
A third international break three months in a row, dragging on forever.
It made even worse this time with the NUFC game moved for TV, meaning a 16 days break since the win over Bournemouth.
Ahead of the match, Newcastle United have released a video (see below) of the players training.
I will leave you to study it to see who is involved but Carroll (showing some neat footwork and skills), Schar, Lejeune and Colback(!) are amongst those featured.
Steve Bruce awaits the internationals returning, with the likes of Dubravka, Clark, Almiron and (Matty) Longstaff having played in this international break.
One possible concern could be DeAndre Yedlin.
Nothing has been said officially but the defender was subbed after 59 minutes of the USA’s 4-0 win over Cuba last night (early hours of Wednesday morning UK time) and some of the match reports mentioned Yedlin limping off the pitch.
Hopefully just a knock and nothing that will impact on his availability, especially after playing so well and scoring against Bournemouth.
