Sky Sports confirm Newcastle United are bidding to sign Granit Xhaka in 7 weeks time
Granit Xhaka played a key role on Friday night as Switzerland marched on to next year’s European Championships finals.
They left it late against a resilient Georgia but Itten scored the only goal of the game in the 77th minute, with Granit Xhaka playing a part in the move for the goal, making his 81st international appearance for Switzerland.
Eight days ago The Times ran an exclusive saying Newcastle were trying to sign the Arsenal midfielder in January.
This was backed up when Luke Edwards of The Telegraph, who is close to Steve Bruce, said the NUFC Head Coach had made a central midfielder the priority in the next window and that Xhaka was first choice if Newcastle could get him on loan.
Then Thursday saw Giancomo Moccetti, a sports journalist with RSI Television in Switzerland saying that he could confirm that both Newcastle United and AC Milan are ‘currently negotiating’ for Granit Xhaka.
As Newcastle fans we have all been here many times and come to realise that any transfer story is only believable once you see them in the official NUFC photos.
However, one thing is for sure and that is Granit Xhaka does need a new club in January, even if only on loan, so he has to go somewhere. If he wants as little disruption as possible ahead of next summer’s Euros then another Premier League club would make most sense…
Sky Sports have now waded in and say that they information is that there is genuine interest from Newcastle United and that the club hope his friendship with Fabian Schar can help seal a loan deal.
