The results of the Newcastle v Aston Villa player ratings by fans.

Always interested to see what supporters have collectively made of the latest performance, when using our interactive ratings system.

Each player marked out of 10 and the averages below.

Dubravka (6.2) was by some distance Newcastle’s man of the match.

The NUFC goalkeeper managing to keep the scoreline respectable with some excellent saves. On another day he might have saved one of the Villa goals but overall, the players in front of him were to blame for this emphatic defeat.

The only other player to get 5.0 or higher was Saint-Maximin (5.3). The only one with any spark going forward but expected to do it all himself, having to start his runs usually deep in Newcastle’s own half.

Came closest to scoring  when creating the chance and Heaton doing well to save his curling 25 yarder.

Only three other players managed 4.0 or higher and tellingly, all were defenders.

Ciaran Clark (4.8) trying his best to hold it together at the back as Villa easily cut through Newcastle’s midfield, Fernandez (4.5) next best and he produced NUFC’s next best chance, a good header but too close to Tom Heaton.

As for those at the very bottom…four stand out.

Joelinton (2.6) and Almiron (2.9) hardly involved in the match, though not helped as always by Steve Bruce’s over the top negative tactics. The Brazilian totally isolated, whilst the Paraguayan is also been played out of position.

Yedlin (3.0) saw his defensive weaknesses full exposed and gave away a daft free-kick for the opening goal. As for Shelvey (3.2), didn’t take any responsibility to try and get Newcastle going and persists in trying to hit long balls instead of carrying the ball and getting further up the pitch, as for the decision to make him captain…

Isaac Hayden (3.9) was anonymous and really poor, though not as poor as some of those around him, whilst Dummett (3.8) was similar in comparison to many of those further up the pitch.
