Newcastle United loan star sends side top of the table with only second goal in 42 months
Whilst Newcastle United were beating West Ham on Saturday afternoon, Rolando Aarons was making his first really key contribution on loan this season.
The NUFC loan winger making his sixth League One appearance of the season for Wycombe Wanderers.
Last weekend Shrewsbury had beaten Sunderland and visiting Wycombe yesterday, they dominated.
However, after failing to turn that domination into goals they fell to a real sucker punch.
With only their second and final effort on target, Wycombe won all three points.
A free-kick flicked on in the 57th minute and Rolando Aarons anticipating, getting on the end of it to volley home (watch below).
This 1-0 win sending Wycombe to the top of the table, at least until Ipswich play on Sunday.
No wonder Rolando Aarons took his gloves off in celebration of the goal.
Hopefully the loan star can kick on from here in a team playing with confidence at a level where he can make a real impact.
To sum up just how badly his career has ground to a half, if it has ever got started…this was only a second league goal in 42 months for the NUFC player.
Rolando Aarons scored in the 5-1 Newcastle win over Spurs on 15 May 2016 but since then he has only managed one more league goal in the following 42 months, in a 2-0 Sheffield Wednesday (under Steve Bruce) victory over Bolton in March, until yesterday that is.
You can watch the goal here, go to 1.18 if you want to go direct to the goal.
Aarons played the first 80 minutes before being subbed and with him set to turn 24 in 13 days time, this season is a massive one.
As things stand, he is contracted to Newcastle United until the end of June 2021.
