Newcastle 2 Manchester City 2  – Saturday 30 November 12.30pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle.

Newcastle drawing 2-2 at St James Park after coming from behind twice.

Jack Lacey-Hatton:

“Brilliant performance every one of the starting 11 played out their skin.

“I thought Willems or Fernandez for man of the match, both always seemed to be in the right place.

“We could have even nicked it.

“How/why was Fernadhino not sent off for the foul that led to our equaliser.”

Jamie Swan:

“Excellent team performance after Mondays debacle.

“Shelvey, ASM, Fernades and Almiron were tremendous and Dubravka outstanding when needed.

“Joelinton in truth the only real struggler.

“Pleased Almiron got an assist and two quality goals from us today.

Brian Standen:

“Great game!

“Great goals win games. But not today!

“Thoroughly deserved point.

“Decent performances right across the park.

“Front 3 played well despite no goals again, the promise is there!

“A special mention to dubravka who saved the day at the end!”

David Punton:

“Jono Shelvey is a match day debate all in itself.

“You could spend hours looking at the merits of having him in the side.

“But when he does things like that today, it’s hard to be critical.

“It was a delicious goal from range. Pinpoint.

“A laser guide shot to restore parity after an earlier moment of brilliance from Kevin De Bruyne looked to have handed Man City all three points.

“Given the quality of today’s opponents that’s a point we will all gladly take.

“We’ve also had a say in the title race.”

Ben Cooper:

“Jonjo shelvey’s late beauty got united a point against a neat and tidy man city.

“Sterling and willems had traded goals in the first half, a de bruyne cracker put city ahead.

“In the end the draw was a fair result for nufc against a city team who are nowhere near title winning contenders.

Jamie Smith:

“However bad/tolerable the overall picture is, any kind of result against the team funded by an oil state is a decent return.

“Night and day from the Villa shambles, with Joelinton and Almiron both having great games.

“Still relying on Shelvey and the defence for goals but let’s not quibble, that point will do nicely.

“I wonder if Liverpool will throw away the favour again?”

Steve Hickey:

“As Arsenal sack their manager as their fans feel they are starved of success, we are regularly labelled the most demanding fans in football.

“Funny old game, funny old media.

“Today was a fabulous, well deserved point and the Geordie nation will celebrate, as they will in Liverpool.

“Jonjo Shelvey is one of the most frustrating players to ever wear a black and white strip.

“A real enigma who today showed his ability.

“Well done the lads and credit to Steve Bruce.”

Kieran Reynolds:

“I don’t think anyone expected much from today’s game so delighted with a point.

“Fantastic spirit to come back from behind twice.

“Will be rewatching Jonjo Shelvey’s goal a few times over the weekend.”

Nat Seaton:

“What an improvement on Monday!!!

“Two great goals and some great saves by Dubravka got us a brilliant point that almost feels like a win.

“Going home happy and more hopeful of the fixtures to come.”

Paul Patterson:

“Great effort from the team in fairness.

“But we really have a problem if we’re picking points off the big boys but not the struggling sides.”
