Newcastle 2 Bournemouth 1 – Instant NUFC fan/writer reaction to Saturday’s win

Newcastle 2 Bournemouth 1 – Saturday 9 November 3pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle.

Newcastle winning at St James Park on Saturday afternoon.

Jamie Smith:

“A nice warming win on a cold day.

“I think United might actually have discovered a bit of form you know.

“Oh hello, what’s this? A lovely long international break to spoil it all.

“The front 3 remain relatively barren but they’re getting there and you can maybe have a degree of confidence that we might not need to rely on defenders for all our goals for the rest of the season.

“If anyone hasn’t seen Clark’s goal set Match of the Day to record mind, it’s a belter!”

Brian Standen:

“Fighting back from a goal down, does not happen often!

“Second best first half but adapted to dominate second half.

“Few favours from the referee!

“Just my opinion but all the 3 up front played well! Good grafters.

“Let’s enjoy another win.”

David Punton:

“Controversy off the pitch with the Strawberry Place development but no such trouble when it came to the actual football a day later.

“Back to back wins has sent us into mid table. Wow.

“Could be as good as it gets? Or maybe, just maybe there is even more to come from this side.

“If the front three, at the combined cost of £80m, manage to find their shooting boots then we’ll be laughing.

“Relying on goals from defenders is nice and all that, but we really need to the lads up top to start chipping in a bit.

“Miggy Almiron had a good game today. Granted, he didn’t score but he did put in a great shift and was able to combine well up there.

“Our number 9 still has some work to do.

“And the French flyer once again caught the eye. Some of the chances carbon copies of the ones that were spurned last weekend at West Ham.

“Credit to the players today. They kept going after the early Bournemouth goal, a sneaky routine from a corner.

“They turned it round. Scoring just before half time was ideal. Clark’s winner seemed to go in, in slow motion.”

Paul Patterson:

“Despite what I think about him personally, it pays to be a lucky manager rather than a good one.

“However, you can’t get away with defenders scoring most, if not all, of your goals.

“That said, a good solid three points…”

Jamie Swan:

“Great result, great spirit to come from behind against a very decent team.

“Two wins on the bounce for a team like us are vital and it gives us a bit of rare breathing space up into 11th.

“Yet more goals from defenders showing the way to our front three!

“All 3 forwards played well to a point, but literally could not score in a brothel with a diamond ring round their Johnson and a suitcase full of money in each hand.

“Almost comical finishing but a very good win. Going to enjoy it.”

Ben Cooper:

“The footballing Gods are smiling on Steve Bruce.

“Two lucky goals came at the right times and confused a Bournemouth team who looked like they could score at will before then.

“United then could have scored more but didn’t and won a very entertaining game in front of a vocal and cold home end.”

Jack Lacey-Hatton:

“Had some iffy patches in the match but all in all a pretty good performance. ‪

“In truth, for the second week running they should have scored 4 and made it more comfortable.

“Front 3 much improved today.

“Joelinton had possibly his best game in a black and white shirt.”

Kieran Reynolds:

“Not easy to watch but an important win which puts some daylight between us and the bottom three.

“This was a gutsy performance and we could have won by more if our front three could finish.”

Nat Seaton:

“The first 40 mins were terrible but thankfully after the first goal we turned it around to gain another valuable 3 points.

“A much better second half and a well deserved victory in the end.

“Next game…. bring on our friends at The Villa!!”

“I fully expected us to lose this game so to win is a bonus.

“Perhaps Bruce is starting to get the team to play the way he wants and also to understand the players at his disposal.

“He was the last person I wanted to get the job.

“But results count more than my opinion and so far he’s doing well so fair play to him.”
