A new report shows the total Premier League net spend of all the top spending clubs.

The figures cover the entire Premier League era.

Running from 1992 up to 2018, the latest available figures.

Kieran Maguire lectures in football finance at Liverpool University and also has his own Price Of Football website.

He has put together the following table…

Kieran says:

“I was asked today about total net spend in the Premier League.

“Since it began, 49 clubs have appeared in EPL and the total net spend to 2018 is £8,150,000,000.

“Some may be surprised that Newcastle United, Sunderland and Stoke City are in the top 10 and Tottenham not.

“Top 3 spenders (Man City, Chelsea and Man Utd) = 40% of total since inception.”

Worth pointing out of course that Stoke have only had 10 Premier League seasons.

Newcastle United have been in the Premier League in all but three of the seasons.

As for the Mackems, they have only been in the Premier League for 16 of the seasons.

Plus of course the main point with Newcastle United, the vast majority of this £273.8m Premier League net spend was BEFORE Mike Ashley took over NUFC.
