Mike Ashley will only sell Newcastle if somebody meets or exceeds the asking price…exceed you may ask?

Mike Ashley is now in the 13th season of his Newcastle United reign.

Whilst Steve Bruce has been NUFC Head Coach these past four months.

So what is the state of play for Newcastle fans at St James Park?

With the (third of the season already!) international break giving us all time to reflect, we have asked some of our regular/irregular contributors a few questions…

Next up is Brian Standen:

Do you think Newcastle’s front three have it in them to regularly score enough goals between them?

I don’t think so.

I do believe they will create, make and miss plenty of chances and I can all three scoring a few, but I don’t see a 15 goal a season striker, that said, I still think they will be exciting to watch and cause many defences loads of issues.

Is Steve Bruce part of the problem or part of the solution? Discuss.

Steve Bruce is neither part of the problem or part of the solution.

The only problem is Mike Ashley and the only solution will be his departure.

Steve Bruce is for now doing a reasonable job but whether that is down to luck or skill is open to conjecture, I don’t however get the vitriol towards him, yes he played for many years for Man Utd and of course he managed Sunderland, but he is a NE bloke.

Sure he made a silly remark a few years ago but let us be honest, NUFC are classless and have been for 12 or 13 years.

What is obvious however is the players are right with him and look like they like him, so hopefully results will continue in a good trend.

With everybody fit, what would be your starting 11 and formation?

I would play exactly as we have recently, three or five across the back with the Willems and Yedlin able to break quickly and support the forwards, one holding and one creative player in midfield and the front three picks itself

Do you think Mike Ashley has ever seriously tried to sell the club previously and do you think he is genuine now about trying to sell it?

I do think he will sell but only with caveats, main one being somebody meets or exceeds the asking price…exceed you may ask?

I think a buyer would need to exceed the said price to rid the stadium and club of all SD, the basic price probably includes keeping his advertising all over the place and that is possibly why buyers are scared off…and the fact he is an ignorant and rude man (allegedly).

Are you still going to matches and how do you feel about fans staying away, is all resistance futile or do fans have to try and do something?

Of course I am still going to the games but I don’t have a problem with those boycotting (unlike the other way round).

I do believe resistance is a waste of time UNLESS the groups combine their efforts, at the moment there seems to be a few good ideas but we don’t have a figurehead.

What I will say though is that the boycott is having an effect as the published crowd figures are clearly false.

How do you see the season going from here?

FA Cup win, Top 6 finish…..if only.

I see us being the model of inconsistency, at times looking pleasing on the eye and surprising some big teams (bring on Man City in a few weeks) but succumbing to the likes of Watford etc., hopefully I am wrong because the team does look good to watch right now. If the front three stay fit then I do see us being in and around the higher echelons of mid-table mediocrity.

How would you describe being a Newcastle fan at the moment?

Same as last year, frustrated!

We are close to being a decent side and with a couple of good additions who knows, but round the corner is the next transfer window when no doubt our better players will be on the radar of other clubs. Christmas time is takeover time……..howay Santa, make this one real!
