Mick Quinn scored plenty of goals for Newcastle United.

Arriving on Tyneside in 1988 the number nine scored four on his debut against Leeds United and hs remained a real cult hero for many Newcastle fans.

In total, Quinny scoring 57 goals in the black and white.

Of course since retiring from playing football, the one-time striker has had a varied workload.

A regular at talk-ins and a media pundit talking about football, as well as a bit of celebrity slimming.

However, his passion has always been horseracing, especially since giving up playing football.

So much so, that Mick Quinn has admitted that training a winner at the horseracing is a bigger thrill than it was when scoring goals for Newcastle United or any other club.

Mick Quinn talking to At The Races:

“Look, I can’t explain as a trainer, what it is like to train a winner, I can’t put it into words.

“It is so exciting.

“Even now, 20 years of training later…had a winner at Nottingham on Wednesday, the buzz and the excitement and the thrill is still there.

“And a lot of people don’t like me saying this at football clubs I have played at, the fans, but it is better than scoring a goal.

“Because of the elements of it.

“It is so competitive now at any level, training (racehorses), whatever band of racing you are in, to win a race.

“Getting the ground right, getting the trip right, the jockey’s tactics right, the training regime, pulling it all together for that race.

“Then when you win…it’s elation.”
