Matty Longstaff makes international debut as Portugal crushed 4-0 by young lions

This season keeps getting better and better for Matty Longstaff.

August saw the midfielder make his first team debut for Newcastle United, starting the game where Newcastle lost on penalties to Leicester in the League Cup.

October of course then saw him thrown in at the deep end, the 19 year old making his Premier League debut in the 1-0 win over Manchester United.

Matty Longstaff scoring the only goal of the game and confirmation in November that it was the official Premier League goal of the month for October, as well as the Match of The Day goal of the month.

A call up for England just topped everything off.

Earlier today the young Newcastle midfielder getting his first minutes on the pitch for the England Under 20s.

Playing away against Portugal, England went 4-0 before then in the 72nd minute Matty Longstaff was introduced from the bench.

A small bit of irony in that he replaced Angel Gomes, who was on the bench for Man Utd when Longstaff scored that winner last month.

Stoke City striker Tyrese Campbell scored twice today and then Manchester City forward Ian Poveda-Ocampo made it 3-0 at half-time.

Arsenal’s Emile Smith-Rowe then getting the fourth goal before Matty Longstaff was brought on.

The Young Lions now face Iceland at Adams Park, home of Wycombe Wanderers, on Tuesday evening. The NUFC midfielder hoping to get a chance from the start.
