Jamaal Lascelles out until 2020 and will he be missed? These updated stats strongly suggest so
Jamaal Lascelles was forced off early in Saturday’s match.
A collision with Martin Dubravka in only the second minute and eventually on 20 minutes limping off.
Tuesday night brought news that scans have shown ligament damage, with the NUFC captain set to be missing for an estimated two to three months.
Taking into account the busy festive period, Jamaal Lascelles could be set to miss 13 Premier League games or more.
So the question is, how badly will he be missed?
Newcastle United have more cover at centre-back than anywhere else on the pitch but does Lascelles give something more than his teammates?
Well this newly updated and published stats table strongly suggests so.
The table shows players (that don’t play for ‘big six’ clubs) who have the most combined clearances and blocks this season, after 12 Premier League games.
Jamaal Lascelles is eighth top, with 11 blocks and 59 clearances, so 70 in total.
The next highest Newcastle United defender and he also makes this list is Fabians Schar, who has a total of 56, 10 blocks and 46 clearances, his figures even more impressive when taking into account the Swiss defender has missed the last three games.
The blocks/clearances table has been published by ‘The Other 14’ (who specialise on stats/tables etc on the 14 clubs who aren’t the ‘Big Six’):
One other point to make. The selection of Tyrone Mings for England was met with a lot of scepticism by some but his stats in this table suggest he just maybe might have deserved it.
