Eddie Howe press conference: Admits he fears Newcastle United’s ‘Exceptional individuals’

Eddie Howe has held his pre-Newcastle press conference on Friday morning.

The Bournemouth boss hoping for consecutive wins after winning at home to Manchester Unite last weekend.

That followed a run of three games without scoring a goal, though the Cherries are now on a run of three without conceding a goal..

Sitting seventh in the Premier League, Eddie Howe admitted on Friday morning that his side will miss Jefferson Lerma.

The £25m signing and his midfield partner Philip Billing have been excellent in recent weeks, helping to protect the defence and produce clean sheets, as well as being key figures in beating Manchester United last weekend.

However, Lerma picked up a fifth booking of the season in that Man Utd game, meaning he is suspended on Saturday.

Eddie Howe says that Bournemouth with have to reproduce that Man Utd form on Saturday, as they will be facing some ‘exceptional individuals’ at St James Park.

Here’s hoping the Bournemouth boss is proved correct on the presence of exceptional individuals in the Newcastle ranks tomorrow, as NUFC need to improve on a shocking record of only three goals so far in five PL matches at St James Park, as they have continually struggled to create chances.

Here’s hoping they can play on Saturday like they did for 50 minutes at West Ham.

Eddie Howe press conference ahead of Newcastle:

“Newcastle have some exceptional individuals, what we know is that we need to produce that Manchester United performance.

“If we do that we can do well.

“Last week (beating Man Utd) was great, we were really pleased with the performance, but the most important thing now is to hit that mark each week.

“The type of player Jefferson is, he’s always going to get cards.

“He and Phil (Billing) have had the physicality in midfield and you need that. In some senses we have to accept it.

“Callum (Wilson) will be pleased to be in the England squad, he will be very proud to play for his country.

“Steve Cook has played really well.

“I know Gareth will be watching every English Premier League game to see who is playing well.”
