Bournemouth fans comments before AND after losing to Newcastle – Very interesting compare and contrast

Less that a thousand Bournemouth fans travelled to Tyneside.

Starting the weekend in seventh, with a win and other results going in their favour, the Cherries could go as high as fifth.

Other results did go in their favour but unfortunately, for Bournemouth fans, their team threw away a winning position.

In their pre-match comments, the visiting supporters feared that their impressive £25m midfielder Jefferson Lerma would be a big miss and the post-match comments definitely swayed that way.

As for comments on the Newcastle team after the game, the away point of view was everything from being impressed through very average, to not being very good and simply NUFC riding their luck.

The Bournemouth fans were mixed as well with those thinking they had deserved to win and those who thought they deserved nothing.

As usual things things see the reality as somewhere in between.

If Bournemouth had deservedly went two or more up in the first half then there was surely no way back for Newcastle. Whilst alternatively, at 2-1 Newcastle’s failures on the finishing front saw them waste great chances to put the game to bed, meaning that King should have made it a point each in the last seconds but missed a header from a foot out.

A great three points for Newcastle and an added bonus when able to read the way fans then tearing into each other after losing at St James Park.

Bournemouth fans comment via their Up The Cherries message board:

‘Travelling up on Thursday. Can’t wait!’

‘I know it’s getting nearer to Xmas but it’s a bit disappointing that our away support will be less than a thousand today.’

‘Big chance to build on last week and get some proper momentum, but we’ve not really been able to get a run going yet this season. Newcastle will be confident after last week’s win.

Jeff(erson Lerma) will be a big loss and I’m not sure we can cope with only 2 in the middle without him.’

‘Make no mistake we will miss Lerma big time.’

‘Newcastle with 3 goals at home all season, us going in without conceding in three games. 0-2 to the Cherries please….’

‘A win at St James for me would be a far more impressive result than the Manu game ,only conceded three goals at home …time to get your scoring boots on Callum.’

‘Awesome city

Great ground

Nice fans

Poor atmosphere

Terrible advert for premier league football (so many mistakes from both sides, embarrassing dives and pathetic play acting for injuries).’

‘I ask again, how are we not beating these lower teams on a consistent basis. I don’t get it.’

‘You need to start supporting Liverpool or Man city mate .’

‘Newcastle acting like they just did a giant killing …unlucky lads .’

‘Newcastle were a lot better than I expected, particularly at time wasting.

Didn’t win the game when we were on top first half.’

‘Come on … cant really think they played well.

That St Maxim chap dancing round them with Cook and Billing dangling their legs at him….made me want to vomit….you think he’d get away with taking the pi.. like that against Lerma?’

‘I thought we were excellent first half, didn’t take our chances as per usual and then had our usual poor 45 mins to let Newcastle have the points. Josh miss at the end was poor.

Agree with someone else, Newcastle will probably end up 12th, 13th or 14th. One place below or above us.’

‘This is Bournemouth, our team who looked like Real Madrid for a short time there in the first half.

It’s a narrow loss, an unlucky loss, a game we should have won.’

‘Thought we were terrible tbh….Cook and Billing didn’t win a tackle between them …. I knew we’d struggle without Lerma …but not that much.’

‘After a bright start and goal we did our absolute best to throw it away and succeeded. Poor passing, lack of imagination and carrying players. For all their worth Newcastle aren’t good but scrapped out that win with an opportunist goal and a scrappy finish.’

‘We were wide open because we were playing for the win ..which is what I thought we would be expected to do against this “poor” Newcastle team.

If the ball had ran different we could just as easily won and the knee jerks would be talking about top 6 again.

Newcastle were hanging on at their place for the win or did I imagine the last ten minutes?’

‘Let’s face it, every game we play is 50/50 we’re a decent enough side but no better than the majority of the division. We’ll finish with a similar points total to what we normally achieve.’

Newcastle deserved that, but it is a shame that they have to resort to falling over 30 seconds after someone made contact with them to waste time with 4 minutes left. I would’ve admired them if they weren’t acting like a bunch of 12 year old netball players (not entirely sure what that means, it just came to my head).

Some minor positives for sure, Rambo again with some outstanding saves… ok, just one positive then… Cook and Ake were dreadful, changes were weird and we missed two players.’

‘It was an alright performance in places but had they took their chances they would have scored five or six. They created 20 chances for a team that can’t score. I thought we looked wide open and laboured to create anything but were pretty effective in the bits of the pitch where it doesn’t count. Our system doesn’t work against counter attacking teams.’

‘Today is the most seated I have ever seen a Bournemouth away crowd. Probably not helped by the average age of the crowd being above 60.’

‘The stadium was half empty.

I thought the Geordies were footy mad.’

‘Hasn’t the ownership issue upset a lot of their fans…?’

‘I don’t think it was a bad game plan. Newcastle are so poor on the ball, that forcing them to have more of the ball and then pouncing on mistakes was looking like a fairly solid plan. It was almost like a switch turned on the half hour mark; when all of our defenders seemed to just give the ball away until conceding. Bizarre. I’d put the loss down to poor individual displays in the middle section of the game tbh.’

‘Well I’m obviously in the minority but I thought other than the disappointing result it was a good performance . Newcastle are no mugs , they’ll be mid table at the end of the season .’

‘Newcastle a bunch of drama queens .’

‘Very poor second half. It was all there for us first half.’

‘Kingy wimped out of that header…’

‘Why hasn’t King just put his head through it? Wtf was that?’

‘Two games without Lerma. Two anaemic performances. I know we shouldn’t be so reliant on him, but we are very lightweight without.’

‘I think Newcastle thoroughly deserved that. Far better than us 2nd half and a lot stronger defensively.

2nd half was woeful, balls lumped up to Wilson and King with no creativity. Defence undone by long balls through the middle.’

‘Very frustrating that. An eminently winnable game. Tbf they all are and we are no better or worse than most of the teams in this division.’
