As Martin Dubravka comes under scrutiny here are updated Premier League goalkeeping stats
Martin Dubravka has now made 61 Premier League starts in a row for Newcastle United.
The Slovakian keeper recently signing a new enhanced contract up to June 2025.
In each of the past two seasons, only two Premier League clubs outside the top four have conceded less goals than Newcastle United.
However, with 17 conceded in only 11 games so far, only two clubs outside the relegation zone have conceded more than Martin Dubravka and Newcastle United.
When goalkeepers make errors, they tend to be costly, with Martin Dubravka blamed for a few goals this season.
The equaliser for Wolves a recent one, whilst some fans thought he should have done better with West Ham’s first goal on Saturday.
An interesting table has now been published by ‘The Other 14’ (who specialise on stats/tables etc on the 14 clubs who aren’t the ‘Big Six’) which shows the most successful Premier League goalkeepers this season when it comes to shots saved.
As you can see, these stats show Martin Dubravka only 10th most successful this season when it comes to saving shots.
It isn’t an exact science of course because every shot/save is different BUT it does back up what we see with our own eyes.
Only idiots would suggest Martin Dubravka should be dropped but I do think the stats back up the opinion that he hasn’t quite been hitting the heights of the previous year and a half.
On Saturday we saw a perfect example of how important your goalkeeper is because Roberto should have stopped the second and third goals, if West Ham and Newcastle had swapped keepers, would NUFC have still won?
