Steven Pressley full of praise for Elias Sorensen after win

Elias Sorensen got another 90 minutes of football on Tuesday night.

He was up against Blackpool, the club that didn’t give the Newcastle loan striker a single start earlier this year.

It was only the EFL Trophy (Checkatrade Trophy now the catchy Leasing.com trophy) but Elias Sorensen got some small revenge for his lack of game time at Blackpool

Whilst Carlisle made nine changes, Blackpool put out a strong team, so the 2-1 win was better than it looks on the surface. Especially with Blackpool sixth in League One, whilst Carlisle are 20th in League Two.

Elias Sorensen failed to get on the scoresheet once again in his eighth appearance for Carlisle but manager Steven Pressley picked the striker out for his attitude and workrate last night.

Pressley has only given the Newcastle loan striker one start in the league so far but there is an increasing chance of a change of manager unless results improve, which could see a new boss potentially give the likes of Elias Sorensen more of a run in League Two.

Carlisle are fifth bottom and have lost three of their last four games, so the pressure is on the current management set-up.

Steven Pressley talking after beating Blackpool 2-1:

“The work ethic of the group…if you look at young Elias Sorensen tonight.

“In the first half he worked exceptionally hard and at times, didn’t get his rewards but he kept doing it and doing it.

“I thought he did exceptional in the second half.

“I’m really pleased with the way he’s coming around and he’s progressed.

“I thought he gave a really good performance tonight

“He showed great bravery but you see in football, it’s amazing that the harder you work, the better you perform. That’s the bottom line.

“And I think that’s one of the things he’s truly added to his game is his out of possession work.

“We have worked a lot on that with him, his understanding of his role and responsibility without the ball and he is doing it to great effect.

“As the game grew, he got stronger and stronger, so really really pleased with his efforts tonight.”
