Miguel Almiron and Fabian Balbuena spent much of the summer together.

The pair together in the Paraguay squad, preparing for and then playing in the Copa America.

Balbuena came back and started in the first game of the season, a 5-0 home defeat to Man City.

Not seen in a Premier League line-up since then, the defender was recalled to start for West Ham in their 1-1 draw with Sheffield United.

On Saturday he is looking forward to meeting up with his international teammate.

Miguel Almiron has started all 10 Premier League games this season but has struggled.

Fabian Balabuena believing Steve Bruce is making a big mistake, playing Almiron out of position.

The West Ham defender says Miguel Almiron needs to be played as a number 10 to get the best out of him.

Alternatively at the very least, Almiron needs to be allowed to be back on the left with a freedom to come inside, a position where he thrived under Rafa Benitez.

Fabian Balbuena talking to the official West Ham match programme:

“I am working hard and I know that only eleven players can start each match.

“This is football.

“Sometimes you have to wait and try to work hard to come back into the team, which is what I did.”

Asked about international teammate Miguel Almiron:

“Now he is playing in a different position and the Premier League is a big difference from the MLS.

“But he is a very good player, a very technical player and a very quick player, so hopefully he will do well.

“I think his manager wants him to play on the wing but for me I think he would be able to show more if he is playing in the centre, in the No10 position.

“I sometimes speak with him and we speak in the national team.

“He is happy to be playing in the Premier League, which is the best league in the world, and he is trying to do his best for Newcastle.

“He is doing well but, for me, he would do even better in his position.

“Through the years, we have had a number of good players (from Paraguay) come to play here in England and hopefully more of our players will come to play here.”
