Allan Saint-Maximin has only made four starts and two sub appearances, playing 315 minutes in the Premier League so far.

However, in that brief time he has been easily Newcastle’s best attacking player.

Even if it is only in giving some hope for NUFC fans that there could be flair and a spark of inspiration this season in Newcastle’s attacking play.

Indeed, as you can see from the stats below, they back up what our own eyes tell us.

That in his brief time on the pitch so far, Allan Saint-Maximin has beaten plenty of opponents with his pace, dribbling technique and positive attitude.

When it comes to the most completed dribbles per 90 minutes, there is nobody more prolific in the top European leagues.

Most dribbles completed per 90 minutes in Europe’s top five leagues (England, Germany, France, Italy, Spain) so far this season, stats from Scouted Football:

5.7 Allan Saint-Maximin (Newcastle United)

5.4 Sofiane Boufal (Southampton)

5.0 Jérémie Boga (Sassuolo)

4.8 Neymar Jr. (PSG)

4.6 Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace)

4.3 Nabil Fékir (Real Betis)

4.2 Nicolas Pépé (Arsenal)

Allan Saint-Maximin was voted best Newcastle player against Wolves by fans in our interactive player ratings.

If Steve Bruce changes the overly negative tactics, the young French winger will then hopefully get possession further up the pitch and start to do some real damage in that final third.

The 22 year old also needs to add more of an end product as well, plus be coached in when to make the right pass.

However, the most important thing is that the pace and raw talent are there, so now he just needs to be put in the right kind of team set-up and given the best guidance.

Maybe get Laurent Robert or David Ginola back to do a bit of coaching…?
