Star player ruled out of Wolves game and it is 17 months since Newcastle won a match without him

It would be a bit harsh to say Newcastle United are a one man team.

However, the omens aren’t good with one particular player ruled out of the Wolves match through injury.

Picking up a knee ligament injury last Saturday at Stamford Bridge, Fabian Schar will be missing on Sunday.

The question is though, how much will he be missed?

Well as Newcastle’s most influential defender and arguably most composed player taking the ball forward, it is difficult to imagine he won’t be a big loss to the team.

However, when you look at the stats, things look an awful lot worse.

The last time Newcastle United won a Premier League match when Fabian Schar wasn’t involved, was 13 May 2018, over 17 months ago.

Newcastle beat Chelsea 3-0 (Gayle and Perez(2) getting the goals) and that was three month before the Swiss defender made hi sfirst appearance.

Since Fabian Schar arrived, Newcastle United have played 47 Premier League matches.

When Fabian Schar has played:

Played 33 Won 14 Drawn 7 Lost 12

Newcastle picking up 49 points from a possible 99

When Fabian Schar hasn’t been involved:

Played 14 Won 0 Drawn 4 Lost 10

Newcastle picking up 4 points from a possible 42

When it comes to goals at both ends, Fabian Schar appears to have also had a dramatic influence.

In the games he has been involved in, Newcastle have scored 38 and conceded 38 in 33 games.

When Schar has been missing, it is only 9 scored and 24 conceded in 14 matches.

Can this Newcastle team prove they aren’t overly reliant on Fabian Schar, starting on Sunday?
