Premier League form table ahead of Chelsea v Newcastle – Tells a story

The Premier League form table ahead of Newcastle United taking on Chelsea.

After the win against Man Utd, Newcastle are 11th in this Premier League form table.

This six game run having two wins, two draws and two defeats.

Looking at the bare results, you can kind of see where some of our (Newcastle fans’) critics are coming from.

Picking up eight points from the last six games isn’t bad BUT the concern has been the actual performances and especially the inability to create many chances and subsequently score goals.

Newcastle did play well and took advantage of Spurs and Man Utd teams with plenty problems of their own.

However, Newcastle were poor to shocking in the matches against Leicester, Watford and Brighton. Very lucky to get the two draws which have meant the difference between being in or out of the relegation zone ahead of Saturday.

As for Chelsea, they stand second in the form table, only Liverpool’s perfect start ahead of them.

Creating chances and scoring goals has certainly not been a weakness for the blues.

With 17 goals alone in these last six PL games, an average of almost three per game.

However, with eight conceded and only one clean sheet in these half dozen games, it suggests Chelsea can still be got at, especially with the likes of Sheffield United, Norwich and Wolves all scoring twice each.

Goals can change games and if Newcastle can take the lead as they did at Spurs, then Chelsea will have to open up even more and subsequently give NUFC more space on the break.

On the other hand, this could be very grim if Chelsea get an early lead, with Newcastle having looked so limited in attack if  the opposition defend reasonably well.

Here is the Premier League form table which covers the past six matches for all teams:

Chelsea’s last six results with latest one listed first:

Southampton 1 Chelsea 4

Chelsea 2 Brighton 0

Chelsea 1 Liverpool 2

Wolves 2 Chelsea 5

Chelsea 2 Sheffield Utd 2

Norwich 2 Chelsea 3

Newcastle’s last six results also listed with the latest result first:

Newcastle 1 Man Utd 0

Leicester 5 Newcastle 0

Newcastle 0 Brighton 0

Liverpool 3 Newcastle 1

Newcastle 1 Watford 1

Tottenham 0 Newcastle 1
