Newcastle United top Premier League form table against the ‘Big 6’
The Premier League is already now into its second international break.
With eight matches gone, we are maybe getting some better indications on how things might end up this season.
Earlier this week we published a table showing results this season when the ‘other 14’ (not ‘Big 6’) club faced each other.
That table showed Burnley (12 points from games against ‘other 14’ clubs) and Crystal Palace (11 points) as doing best, helping them to sixth and seventh in the Premier League.
Newcastle United and Watford were joint bottom of that table, picking up only two points each from games so far against ‘other 14’ clubs.
A table has now been published by ‘The Other 14’ (who specialise on stats/tables etc on the 14 clubs who aren’t the ‘Big Six’) which shows a league table of matches this season taken from games where the ‘other 14 clubs’ have played ‘Big 6’ clubs:
As you can see, at the moment Newcastle United are right at the top of this particular table, thanks to the wins over Man Utd and Tottenham, having lost the other two to Liverpool and Arsenal.
So far the ‘other 14’ clubs have had 36 games against ‘big 6’ clubs and they have produced eight wins, five draws and 23 defeats. The ‘big 6’ clubs winning just less than two third of these matches.
In terms of losing to ‘other 14’ clubs, the eight defeats have been suffered by Man Utd (Three – Newcastle, West Ham and Crystal Palace), Tottenham (Three – Newcastle, Brighton and Leicester) and Man City (Two – Norwich and Wolves).
The very fact that both Man Utd and Spurs have each lost three of these games points to Newcastle’s wins against the pair, maybe not being the biggest shocks in reality.
