Newcastle United official statement confirms Matt Ritchie surgery
An official statement from the football club has confirmed that Matt Ritchie has undergone surgery.
Newcastle United stating on Thursday afternoon that the 30 year old has had an operation on his ankle.
This follows media reports that Ritchie had needed the operation after initial optimism that the problem would be sorted quickly without one, proved a little optimistic.
The club’s brief official statement (see below) says that Matt Ritchie hasn’t so far been able to join in with full training but they hope this will happen soon.
NUFC claiming he could return to action by the end of the month.
Chelsea away in nine days time sounds as though it is ruled out, that game then followed by Wolves at home on Sunday 27 October and ten West Ham away on Saturday 2 November.
Newcastle United official statement:
‘Newcastle United can confirm that Matt Ritchie has undergone a minor ankle operation.
The 30-year-old was injured after a challenge by Hamza Choudhury in August’s Carabao Cup tie against Leicester City.
Following the successful surgery, it is hoped that Ritchie will be able to resume full training shortly and could return to first team action towards the end of this month.’
