Newcastle United loan player stars as Wycombe beat Sunderland and Mackems drop to mid-table
Tough times for Sunderland.
They might have swapped managers but their struggle continue.
Phil Parkinson replacing Jack Ross this week, with many Sunderland fans instantly dismissing the appointment as a disaster and not good enough for their club.
Sunderland travelled to Wycombe today and managed only the one shot on target, which didn’t go down too well with the away support.
Even worse for them was the fact that a Newcastle loan player played a big part in the defeat.
Rolando Aarons was starting his first game for Wycombe and was lively from the first whistle, drawing a number of free-kicks from the Sunderland players, to go with the abuse he was getting from the Sunderland fans.
Revenge is sweet though and in the 29th minute Aarons was brought down yet again.
From the set-piece Darius Charles scored after Adebayo Akinfenwa headed the ball to him.
Whilst the away team managed only the one effort on target, Wycombe created a string of chances and Sunderland were grateful to their keeper Lee Burge for a number of decent saves.
Rolando Aarons played into the 95th minute before being subbed to applause from the home fans.
Sunderland have now dropped to mid-table and in tenth, are now seven points off the automatic promotion places and will be 11 points off the top if Ipswich win their game in hand on Sunday away at Accrington Stanley.
A satisfying day for Rolando Aarons as the NUFC loan winger had only played 47 minutes in sub appearances in League One previously for Wycombe.
Hopefully he can now get a run in this promotion chasing team.
