Newcastle United 1 Manchester United 0 – Match ratings and comments on all NUFC players
We asked Jack Lacey-Hatton to give us his match ratings after Newcastle United 1 Manchester United 0.
After such a shocking performance and result at Leicester last week.
A massive relief to bounce back with this win over Man Utd.
Jack Lacey-Hatton gives us his NUFC player ratings and comments.
Dubravka – 7
A much more composed performance from Martin than in recent weeks.
Looked calm when claiming crosses and held everything from distance. Still one of our most consistent performers.
Clark – 7
He won tackles and made blocks all afternoon, whilst staying composed on the ball.
His passing was probably more accurate and controlled than Dummett’s has been in recent weeks.
Lascelles – 6
A much improved display from our skipper, winning his aerial duels and commanding the backline.
Hopefully he keeps this up in the upcoming weeks and leads the team through a rough patch.
Will need to keep improving before Lejeune returns to fitness.
Schar – 7
For the second straight home game Fab has saved us. His interception on Rashford was sublime and was pivotal in us winning the three points.
Yedlin – 6
Completely deserved his recall based on today’s performance.
Constant energy down the right hand side and made some crucial tackles.
His yellow card was necessary as Manchester Utd were breaking on the counter.
Willems – 6
What appeared to be a mixed appearance from our Dutch left wing-back became an excellent display, after his clear cutback and lay off to Matty Longstaff to smash home the winner.
He seems to show real desire when getting forward and the combination of him and Saint-Maximum down the left looks exciting.
M. Longstaff – 8
A dream debut.
The goal will rightly get the headlines but his whole display was full of industry and creativity.
His passing was sublime and he looked completely at home. What a huge bonus for the club. That goal just topped off a dream day.
S. Longstaff – 7
Did have to play a supportive role today to his younger brother but was also excellent and helped us counter at pace.
Wonderful pass to Almiron for his chance in the first half.
Almiron – 6
He may still be waiting for a goal but it was another energetic performance from the Paraguayan.
His willingness to run at the MUFC defence helped push us up the pitch.
Should have got a shot away earlier in the first half but I am convinced a goal will come soon.
Certainly a huge improvement on last week.
Saint-Maximin – 7
We could have a player on our hands here.
Always willing to take players on and threaten the opposition full-backs. Wonderful run led to the winning goal.
Joelinton – 5
Whilst he wasn’t able to get into goal scoring situations, he did work hard for the team.
At times he was feeding off scraps, particularly in the first half. He does at least always show willingness to get on the ball.
Carroll – 6
Atsu – 5
Krafth – Not on long enough.
