Manuel Pellegrini press conference : Confirms 4 West Ham injuries but hopes Andy Carroll is on the pitch
After losing 5-0 to Man City at home on the opening day, Manuel Pellegrini had his side in good form with a run of 12 points from 18 in the following six games.
However, the pressure has recently been back on, as in the last five games there have been two draws and three defeats.
They included a humiliating 4-0 hammering at Oxford in the League Cup.
Manuel Pellegrini obviously looking for West Ham to bounce back on Saturday, facing a Newcastle side who struggle to even create chances (four shots on target in last four games), never mind score goals (two in the last 9+ hours of football).
Asked about a possible Andy Carroll return, Manuel Pellegrini says he hopes to see the striker play as he ‘has had too many injuries and deserves to have a normal season.’
Whilst Steve Bruce is set to be missing Sean Longstaff, Fabian Schar, Florian Lejeune, Matt Ritchie and probably Andy Carroll
Manuel Pellegrini confirms he has four players definitely missing on Saturday – Wilshere, Fabianski, Reid and Antonio.
Manuel Pellegrini pre-Newcastle press conference:
“We must try to improve on what we did in the last two games at home (leading in both games but losing to Palace and drawing with Sheff Utd).
“We did not play badly against Palace or Sheffield but we didn’t win.
“We must keep a clean sheet and decide the game, we had chances in both games to finish.”
“They have played big teams, won at Tottenham and lost a tight one at Chelsea.
“Some defeats when they had one player less.
“Newcastle are a good team with a manager that knows his work.”
On possible return of Andy Carroll:
“I hope that he will be fit.
“He is a player, who like Winston Reid, has had too many injuries and deserves to have a normal season.”
“Jack (Wilshere) has a small problem, not 100% fit and for him it is a risk to come back before he has completely recovered.
“Winston Reid played last night without a problem and we will see how he reacts, he will play a full game for the U23s next and we will see when we can bring him back to the first team.
“Michail Antonio and Lukasz Fabianski are still recovering.”
