Friday late morning official Manchester United injury/fitness update for Newcastle: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Late Friday morning has seen an update on the Manchester United site, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reflecting on the injury and fitness issues he now faces for Sunday.

The update says that Eric Bailly and Phil Jones are definitely ruled out against Newcastle United.

Whilst there is still a ‘question mark’ on full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who didn’t even travel to Holland for last night’s  Europa League game, due to an unspecified illness.

The official Manchester United update reaffirms that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said Jesse Lingard has joined the injury list with a hamstring problem suffered less than 15 minutes after coming on last night as a sub, the midfielder set to miss on Sunday.

The same with Paul Pogba and his ankle injury, both players being targeted to return after the international break, for a game against Liverpool where Solskjaer most definitely can’t afford to be humiliated against their most hated rivals.

Asked about Paul Pogba’s availability, Solskjaer answering:

“Paul? Probably not. There’s the international break to come and that might be the time to give them [Pogba, Lingard and others] 10-14 days extra to get them ready for the Liverpool game.”

The Manchester United website adding: ‘Ole has already indicated that the Tyneside encounter will probably come too soon for Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial, even if they are making progress in terms of their return.’

Harry Maguire and Ashley Young didn’t play last night but should both start against Newcastle.

So altogether, it looks like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manchester United will be missing up to seven players on Sunday.

With Pogba, Lingard, Shaw, Jones, Bailly and Martial all set to miss, with Wan-Bissaka potentially making it seven who are unavailable.
