Fans choice of this Newcastle United team v Manchester United
We asked fans the question, which 11 players would you pick in your Newcastle United team v Manchester United?
We put together a list of the 23 players who looked as though they could potentially be selected for this game.
On Friday morning, Steve Bruce indicated that only three players were definitely ruled out.
The Head Coach saying that Matt Ritchie and Florian Lejeune are still working their way back to full fitness, whilst Isaac Hayden is suspended.
An interesting selection this time, with eight players getting 82% or better support from Newcastle fans.
The usual suspects in many cases but they also include Allan Saint-Maximin (91%) and Sean Longstaff (88%) coming back into the team, now fit.
Ninth and tenth choices are Willems (71%) and Yedlin (70%) at wing-back. Two positions that Newcastle desperately needed to bring in quality this summer but totally failed. The Dutchman the only current option with Ritchie injured, whilst on the other side, Yedlin only having the limited Manquillo (26%) and Krafth (9%), the Swede looking nothing like a Premier League level player.
Last week, it was very strange to see Christian Atsu make the fans team with only 37% support, I can’t ever remember anybody with only 37% support ever making the top eleven. Not exactly a massive show of support/belief in him but due to viable alternatives, he got 11th place.
Remarkably, that 37% has now been beaten!
This week, it is central midfield where Newcastle fans didn’t really want to pick anybody to play alongside Sean Longstaff.
Eventually Ki has made the fans 11 with only 33% of the fan vote, Shelvey then 32% and yet to make his debut, Matty Longstaff 29%.
This is how the Newcastle team v Manchester United looks based on the fan votes with the percentage votes (rounded up/down to nearest whole number) for each of the 23 players.
92% Sean Longstaff
29% Matty Longstaff
