Alan Shearer talks about state Newcastle United are in ahead of facing Manchester United
Alan Shearer has been talking about the situation Newcastle United now find themselves in.
Only seven Premier League games gone and just entering October but the Newcastle United legend says the team he supports, are most definitely a relegation candidate.
In fact, Alan Shearer says that this has been the case since the season kicked off.
Shearer believes that last week at Leicester sets off massive alarm bells, not just the result but the whole performance.
The former striker saying he agrees with Steve Bruce on there being a clack of effort from players against Leicester and that is totally unacceptable.
Not surprisingly, Alan Shearer is looking for the right reaction today against an opponent that has many problems of their own: ‘They now have to come out against Manchester United this weekend and give absolutely everything.’
The only thing Shearer once again doesn’t touch on, is the part played by his close friend Steve Bruce.
A very difficult position for Alan Shearer to be put in, as for most fans Steve Bruce is the biggest problem Newcastle have, with the exception of Mike Ashley of course, compared to recent seasons when Rafa Benitez was the club’s biggest asset.
Alan Shearer perfectly summing up exactly how so many of us are feeling at this point when stating: ‘If anybody didn’t think it was going to be a long hard season for Newcastle, they know it now.’
Alan Shearer talking to Coral:
‘Just how bad was Leicester for Newcastle?’
“It was awful.
“The manager said himself it was a lack of effort and…
“Once the sending off happened, which was a correct decision. You can’t tackle like that anymore in today’s game – that would have been alright 20 years ago but not now, the follow through a straight red and deserved it.
“…then you expect a team to come together and show a bit fight and if you do down fighting that’s acceptable – but Newcastle didn’t.
“They went with a whimper and they got heavily criticised and rightly so.
“If anybody didn’t think it was going to be a long hard season for Newcastle, they know it now.”
‘Just into October but you must have real relegation worries?’
“Yes, that’s the concern.
“I think it has been since the start of the season.
“There was a glimmer of hope when they went to Tottenham and got the result there. A little bit of hope and thinking hold on, we might all be wrong here…but brought back down to earth though.
“You can’t afford one of those performances a season (like the one at Leicester) because you get absolutely hammered off your fans and rightly so.
“They now have to come out fighting.
“They now have to come out against Manchester United this weekend and give absolutely everything…because that performance last weekend, not acceptable.”
