Alan McInally covered Chelsea game for Sky Sports and says Newcastle star was ‘a real good threat’
Alan McInally thinks that Chelsea are now a much more exciting team to watch.
The Sky Sports pundit praising Frank Lampard’s team and especially the emphasis on young English players: ‘I have got to say that Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham and Hudson-Odoi were really fantastic, they really were.’
As for Newcastle on Saturday ‘Apart from Joelinton with one half chance’, Alan McInally didn’t see any other chances for the visitors.
However, he did have special praise for one NUFC player: ‘I tell you who was a real good threat for Newcastle in the first half, the boy Saint-Maximin. He was really good and pushed them (Chelsea) back loads of times.’
The first 20 minutes or so did see ASM putting pressure on the Chelsea defenders and they were quick to panic, showing why they have conceded 19 goals in all competitions this season.
However, Newcastle played so deep and defensively, Saint-Maximin then spent the rest of the game defending, Steve Bruce allowing no further ambition after those few early attempts to press.
You have to feel sorry for the likes of Joelinton, ASM and Almiron. With Bruce’s tactics meaning Newcastle play so deep, they rarely get any chance to press further up the pitch and win the ball in dangerous positions.
Alan McInally speaking to Sky Sports:
“Apart from Joelinton with one half chance…I tell you who was a real good threat for Newcastle in the first half, the boy Saint-Maximin.
“He was really good and pushed them (Chelsea) back loads of times.
“But I have got to say that Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham and Hudson-Odoi were really fantastic, they really were.
“They are a better team to watch now Chelsea, they genuinely are.
“More exciting to watch, they certainly go forward, they controlled the game for huge spots.
“The only bad thing was they lost Ross Barkley and brought on Kovacic.
“Then they took off Mason Mount and brought on Christian Pulisic and he made the difference.
“They get the goal and they win 1-0.”
